Lake Havasu City

We are now in Lake Havasu City, Arizona at the Havasu Falls RV Resort. We have stayed here during the major part of the winter for the last three years. We like it here as we have made some lasting friendships with several other "snow-bird" couples that come back to this park annually.
We arrived here on Nov. 1 amid hugs, kisses and hearty handshakes from friends that had arrived before us. Teddy has, of course, resumed her daily walks from the park to either one of two small shopping malls each about two miles from the park in opposite directions and I and some of my early rising friends have resumed our daily coffee bull-shit session from ± 6 to 8 am. Because of the clear air and relative lack of light pollution I look forward to the amazing starry sky upon exiting the trailer each morning before sun-up. Makes getting up early worth it. Then after coffee I generally have breakfast, do my shower and then settle in for a nap to make up for my early rising lack of sleep, during which time Teddy takes her walk.
Works for us. ;-).

Florence Prison RV Park

While we were at the Desert Gardens RV Oasis we visited the prison outlet store in Florence at the Arizona State Prison Complex also known as Florence State Prison (FSP). It is one of 13 prison facilities operated by the Arizona Department of Corrections (ADC). FSP is located in Florence, Pinal County, Arizona, 55 miles east from the state capital of Phoenix.
There we found good news for RVers that enjoy a different kind of camping experience. We discovered that they are building an RV Park addition in the prison. There RVers will be able to mingle with the prisoners in the yard and participate in their various activities such as body building and running. Part time employment opportunities for work-campers will also be available in the prison laundry and license plate shop.
It is also rumored that it will be possible for minimum security prisoners to purchase their own RV, albeit with bars on the windows & doors, and live in them as opposed to a cell; motorhomes will, of course, have to have their engines disabled as well. This should go a long way in relieving the overcrowded prison conditions and may become a model for prisons around the nation.
So...if any of you RVers should find yourself in south central Arizona I suggest that you investigate what should turn out to be a unique camping experience. And who knows, some of you single or widowed RV ladies out there may even discover a new romance. ;-)

Clouds

It doesn't rain much here in Arizona. Most days have clear skies and full sun and the wind is nearly always from the west, however lately we had cooler weather and some rain bought in by winds from the NE. I believe it to be associated with the same weather pattern that hit Oklahoma, Nebraska & points East of us so bad. Every cloud has a silver lining though, attested by this early morning shot of clouds over the Hulalapai Mountains to the SE

Quartzsite

Yesterday we drove down to Quartzsite, AZ for the day to attend the annual RV Show as well as the Craft & Gem Show. We first broused part of the Gem & Mineral area. I bought these agates, amythists, & hematites with the intention of attaching them to the top of golf tees for custom P&J pegs. Teddy bought some quartz crystal specimens. Then we drove over to the "BIG TENT" area where the RV show was being held. We oohed and aahed several expensive MHs and 5W trailers.

Then tireing of that we went (Teddy walking, me on my Segway) into the big tent to brouse some of the vendors. There are literally thousands of vendors hawking their wares and I don't think that we saw half of them.
Finally tireing of the croud we ducked out and headed back to Havasu City; stopping on tha way back at Parker, AZ to dine at a delightful little Scottish restaurant called McDonalds.

Waffles

Every Saturday from 7 to 9:30am we "Snowbirds" here in the park make breakfast in the clubhouse. We staff it with volunters and charge a $5.00 (donation) per person to cover expenses. We offer scrambled eggs, sausages, biscuts & gravey, pancakes, waffles, coffee and juice. From the profits we have been able to buy two restaurant style waffle makers, hold Christmas & Valentines dinners and sponsor other various activities. Ross Peterson (from Ontario) and I are the waffle makers. Here we are hard a work this morning. Photography by Teddy.
